The offseason program has been underway for about a month now. The Aaron Rodgers era is
over in Green Bay. On Wednesday, May 10, Jordan Love addressed the media for the first time
as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.
Love handled it very well.
Reporters asked Love about a lot of different things such as the type of leader he is, what his strategy is for when things go bad throughout the season, if he talked to Rodgers after the trade, how he went about this
offseason, about the teammates that came to workout with him, as well as the
confidence he has in himself.
Love said his way of leading is “bringing people along”. He wants to elevate everyone and knows that they are all there to be great and all have the same goals.
Love said his strategy for dealing with the low points of the season is simply sticking together as a team and working to correct those downs rather than turning on each other. He believes the closer they are as a team the easier it will be to get through those downs.
When asked how he approached this offseason Love said he approached it as if he was the starter. He
was then asked if that was any different from any other year, to which he stated that it was not the case
in previous years. He had always gone into every offseason preparing to be the starter.
Something that has not happened in a long time in Green Bay is offensive skill players going out and working out with the starting quarterback during the offseason. That finally changed as Packers running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Romeo Doubs worked out with Love. Love said the workout went great and is hoping to get more teammates out there before the next portion of the offseason program.
Arguably the biggest part of his press conference was talking about Rodgers.
Love said he will always be grateful for being able to sit behind Rodgers for three years and learned a ton from him. Love did mention they both talked after the trade and wished each other
well. He said Rodgers told him if he ever needed any help or had any questions, he would be there for
him.
Love was asked about how he progressed through having to sit behind Rodgers for three
years. He mentioned it was difficult and said when Rodgers signed the extension last
year, he was not sure what was next for him. His mindset was to just go out and ball out.
The biggest thing from Love’s press conference though is how much he believes in himself. He is
very confident in his ability and very confident in this team. It is no doubt Love said all the right
things in his first press conference as the starter, but now the question is will Love excel in his
first year as the starter as he did in his first press conference?
