Everything that happened to the Chicago Bears organization in the past week or so has been so insane, it’s hard to believe that it’s even real. A struggling team. Question marks about the players and coaching staff. An upset fanbase. Stolen equipment. A coaching resigning. Let’s dive into what has been of one of the weirdest weeks in Bears football.
Loss to the Buccaneers
The Bears traveled down to Tampa Bay to face Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers, and the Bears stayed somewhat competitive in the game, until the end when Justin Fields through a game-losing pick-six to Shaq Barrett to put Chicago at 0-2 on the year. Conversations in the media soon began to arise about Justin fields and his playmaking and defense-reading abilities. At the same time, the Bears offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, was under fire for failing to structure the offense in a way that supported Justin Fields’s playing strengths.
Justin Fields Calls Out His OC
After the Chicago Bears return to Halas Hall, quarterback Justin Fields was asked why he thought he may be struggling this early in the season. Justin Fields said “coaching” might be one of the reasons. The media took his quote and it blew up all over social media. Fields later made it clear with the media that his quote was taken out of context, and that he and Luke Getsy have a great relationship, and he said that the media was trying to split up the team. Later at practice, the cameras are pointing at Justin fields and Luke Getsy, and Fields and Getsy hugged it out while Justin Fields waved to the camera, proving that there is no problem with the relationship.
Alan Williams Resigns
After all the madness that went down with the coaching, Wednesday saw a new surprise at Halas Hall. Rumors initially surfaced that defensive coordinator Alan Williams had resigned. It was reported that his house was raided by the FBI, and former Bears cornerback and now FBI agent Charles Tillman had involvement in the raid, coincidentally. It was also initially reported that Hallas Hall was rated by the FBI, but that ended up being denied by the Bears and not true. At the time of the release, many details were unknown about why Williams suddenly retired. Alan Williams wrote in his resignation letter that he did so to take care of his health and his family. Adam Schefter later reported that his resignation was due in part to “inappropriate activity”. The details still remain uncertain on exactly what it was that caused Williams to resign, but in due time, we will find out.
Equipment Stolen From Soldier Field
To add to the Bears’ already crazy week, it was later reported in the week that over $100,000 worth of equipment had been stolen from Soldier Field’s parking lot. It was reported that lawn mowers and tractors were wedged between the fences, but that the incident has nothing to do with the Chicago Bears. There were no surveillance cameras that caught the thieves, but thankfully the equipment belonged to a subcontractor, and it was insured, so that equipment will be replaced. At the time of writing this, the thieves have not yet been caught.
Bears Get Destroyed By the Chiefs
And to cap off one of the weirdest weeks in Chicago Bears history, the Bears flew down to Kansas City to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. the Chiefs are coming off their second Super Bowl Championship under Mahomes and Andy Reid, and even before the Bears so far disastrous season started, no analyst would predict that the Bears would win. the Bears’ defense kept on getting scored on and by halftime, the game was 34 to 0. Thankfully for Bears fans, we didn’t get completely shutout but still lost the game 41 to 10. To make matters more weird, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce was recently rumored to be dating star pop singer Taylor Swift. As game time approached, the cameras caught Swift in a suite with Travis Kelce’s mom, which confirmed their rumors to be true.
There has been no other week like this in Chicago Bears football and their entire 100-plus-year existence.
