The Chicago Bears were able to get their first win of the season (finally) in week 5 against the Washington Commanders. The Bears’ team was firing on all cylinders in their 40-20 win, their first since October 24, 2022. Justin Fields had his second consecutive 4-touchdown game, and significant in his success was the production of DJ Moore. In the past two weeks, DJ Moore and Justin Fields have been lighting it up on that stat sheet.
Justin Fields went 15 of 29 passing for 283 yards and 4 touchdowns. While his completion percentage was an underwhelming 51.7%, there were a lot of missed opportunities on balls downfield and plays where Fields had to throw the ball out to avoid a sack. Of Fields’ 283 passing yards, 230 of those yards came from Moore, who was absolutely electric on TNF as 3 of his 8 catches went for scores. So far, Moore ranks third in yards after the catch with 229, fifth in yards with 531, and tied for first with 5 touchdowns! That’s right, a Bears receiver leads the NFL in an offensive category. Even if it’s just for now, Chicago fans will take those small things while we can.
It’s still of course early in the year, but after a slow start to 2023, it seems Fields and Moore are showing off a great chemistry and potential for the Bears offense.
