Last season with how fast Justin Jefferson got onto the scene, lots of fans had a huge glimpse of hope that Jefferson would be the first WR to breach the 2,000-yard mark. Unfortunately, Jefferson was unable to do so. You see, the Vikings started off hot, going 8-1 with an offense defenses hadn’t seen. The Vikings were exceeding at a great level at the midpoint of the season. However, the team slowly regressed, becoming less dominant. Vikings fans, and I, watched the team drop 2 of their next 4. Now, after looking at the stats, Jefferson actually had a dropoff in yardage in the second half of the season, logging 749 yards of his 1,809. As we said, however, the team also declined. This leads to the question: If the Vikings stay consistent, can Jefferson break the 2,000-yard mark? Here’s my take.
Given the circumstances, I think this whole team will jump forward. With how well-spoken the defense is said to be, I think that it will make the offense better. We have already heard about how the offense has struggled because of the new looks and how Brian Flores’ influence on the defense has already shown great signs. If you have a defense that can create problems for a top-10 offense, you are destined for something special. If everything that is said is true, there is one philosophy that applies perfectly: iron sharpens iron. Slowly, but surely, Jefferson will learn to have to accommodate for a different look here and there, and it will transfer to the field perfectly. Not to mention, the Vikings have the potential to have a dominating trio of WR’s. A threatening rookie combined with an experienced KJ Osborn, and, to top it all off Justin Jefferson. With there not being so much focus on Jefferson it could definitely open up some opportunities for Jefferson to get more yardage and targets. I think with Kirk also having an offense go unchanged will help his growth tremendously.
All around, Justin Jefferson could definitely get to 2,000 yards. I think he can do it as long as the team remains consistent. With this you also have to worry about injuries, but Jefferson has luckily been the healthiest player on the team. In my personal opinion, I think he will hit it before the 18th week.
