The Vikings wide receiver room is loaded, there is no questioning that. However, lots of questions have arisen amongst the lineup. Who should get it? Does Osborn deserve it? Is Addison that good to get it? I, personally, think it is a toss up, but I think I have a good reasoning as to who I think deserves it.
Now, some think KJ, some think Addison, however, both could fill the position great. KJ was a great three behind Jefferson and Thielen, but, I think for him it is almost a pay raise in a way. No he doesn’t literally get a pay raise, but he earned it. As a three, he recorded 600 plus yards of receiving and was a great playmaker. However, Addison came in with the expectation that he was filling the two, and it would be a sour note for him to start as a 3, or even competing for it. Although both fit the equation, I think there is someone who stands out more than another—that someone is Jordan Addison.
Looking at it some fans might disagree, but in a way, this actually is a win-win situation. Addison gets to lure people off of Jefferson, and vice versa. Then KJ gets to still be open, or isn’t highly prioritized by defenses still. If KJ was a two, he would be prioritized more and probably wouldn’t get as many playmaking opportunities. Yes, I do think KJ can handle the challenge, but I also think Addison would be better at taking defenders off of JJettas. Addison is such a good route runner right off the rip that teams won’t want to leave him one on one. To any defensive coordinator it is free yards for the offense. Whereas KJ isn’t as advanced as Jefferson or Addison. Can he get there? Yes I think he can, but it takes time and a lot of work. In the end though, I think Addison wins the battle between the two.
Fans probably won’t like my opinion here, and I understand why. Sure, maybe my judgment is incorrect, biased, or even ridiculous. However, I think this is what is best for the team and for each individual. Plus, if anything, it pushes KJ to be better and to earn that spot. If he does earn that spot, I, and many others will be very excited and proud of him.
