Recently I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a ranking of the league’s offenses, and, after looking at it for a little bit, it made me think to myself: Where do the Vikings rank? When asking this question, it is important to analyze each level of offense to process my ranking. So, let’s analyze the Vikings’ offense.
While watching this offense over the past few years, fans have been excited. This offense this upcoming season is one that defenses will fear, and have feared, for a while. The Vikings had multiple offensive playmakers in the top 10 in their respective positions. This offense is one that has loads of talent that blend together to work at their highest level possible. The o-line has finally been fixed, temporarily, and is set to help Kirk lower that sack rate for another year. This is an offense that has shown its worth, and playmaking ability in the biggest moments. Our offense single-handedly kept us in the game against Buffalo. They helped us beat the Packers week 1. Not to mention the 61-yard field goal that was set up by an impressive Justin Jefferson play– that the o-line executed perfectly. Finally, our offense also marked their name in NFL history braving the Colts to create the new NFL record for the largest comeback in football history. This offense has been a spectacle for fans and for teams across the country. However, all of this stardom starts with the playmakers.
To start, the offensive tackles the Vikings have developed are absolutely amazing. On one side you have Christian Darrisaw, regarded as one of the best players under 25 in the league. He has been what the Vikings have hoped for and more. Logging 2 penalties which is absolutely amazing, and five sacks allowed which isn’t bad for a, basically, second-year player. Opposite of him you have Brian O’Neill who has also been regarded as one of the best young tackles in the NFL. Darrisaw, however, was better than O’Neill. O’Neill recorded five penalties and six sacks, which isn’t bad but also isn’t top-tier. However, he has been a very reliable piece of the Vikings’ offense. Everything in between those two is a little iffy, however. You have Ezra Cleveland who can have his good games, but also has his bad. Then you have Ed Ingram who just absolutely struggled. However, you have Garrett Bradbury, who is simply inconsistent. Yes, he had a good season, but he also lacked in the seasons before. If he keeps up his good play, he will become another fan favorite. Speaking of fan favorites, Kirko Cousins is a very underrated QB. I think this next year will be a very good year for him, he will have prior experience to O’Connell’s offense, and the people around him will too. Kirk is definitely a top 10 QB in the league, I think he is definitely one who should be on that bubble. Then Dalvin Cook, hopefully he stays around, is one of the most explosive backs in the league. If anyone says Mattison can be that explosive, I’m sorry to say this, but they are lying to you. Cook was an amazing back, and brings a lot more to this offense than fans give him credit for. Then the receivers, I mean what do I have to say, JJettas, KJ, and Jordan Addison. I don’t think I need to say much here other than, “unstoppable”. Then you have T-Hock to pair with them, I mean, this offense has so much stardom on it that some fans can’t process how they didn’t make it past the first round of the playoffs. Although we rated the weapons, the question still needs to be answered: Where do the Vikings rank?
To me, this offense is a top 5 offense. If they just got better interior offensive linemen, this team would probably be top 3. I think this offense will absolutely blow league defenses up this season. They will be challenged by a couple of defenses of course: examples are the Eagles, Niners, and the Packers as usual, but they will be the powerhouse, and carrier, of this team next season. There will be plenty of pyrotechnics in US Bank Stadium come next season, so, be prepared Vikings fans.
