The Lions have a lot of pending free agents in this year’s class and some of these moves will play a crucial part in their success next season, if they want to make a push for the playoffs next year this is who I believe needs to be retained.
Jamaal Williams, RB
To nobody’s surprise, Jamaal Williams is the first player on this list, Jamaal turned into one of the most reliable players in the league this season, whenever the Lions needed a yard or two he was the guy to get it for them. I believe Jamaal will re-sign with the team, but in terms of a decision, he is a no-brainer. Nobody else on this team is the kind of security blanket he is and we have not had that type of consistency at running back in a very long time. I fully expect Williams to be back and share the backfield with Swift once again.
Deshonn Elliot, S
Deshonn played great for the Lions this season when his number was called upon, he was very good moving downhill and made a lot of plays near the line of scrimmage, with the absence of Tracy Walker Eliott was still able to hold his own out there, and would be a great piece for the Lions to keep this offseason. With the emergence of Kerby Joseph, I believe that Dehsonn Elliott is the perfect player to keep next to him next year.
John Cominsky, DE
Cominsky may not be the sexiest signing in the league but he sure would be an important one. Seemingly coming out of nowhere Cominsky was able to earn himself playing time early for the Lions and made some plays too. He was able to contribute to a pretty weak defense and stood out on a majority of plays. His price will not be that expensive this season and he is certainly a guy that can help such a decrepit defense in the future.
