Prior to the 2023 draft, and the presumed Aaron Rodgers trade, the Green Bay Packers still need a lot of help going into their 2023 campaign. This includes needing certain players to break out in order to have a successful season as there is not a lot of solidified talent at certain positions at the moment. Not to mention with the draft the team may be able to get two to three good contributors but will regardless have certain holes still remaining on the roster.
Number 3: WR Romeo Doubs
The 2023 Packers offense is going to be very different from the offense fans have watched for the last several years. This is in part due to the lackluster receiving corp surrounding the team. While the team already has its emerging number one playmaker in Christian Watson, the remaining playmakers remain suspect at best. At the moment if the team wishes to be successful, WR Romeo Doubs, a 4th round pick last year, will need to emerge as a quality playmaker. In his rookie campaign Doubs recorded 42 catches for 425 yards and 3 TD’s in 13 games. After being hyped up all offseason Doubs clearly had a led down rookie campaign. That being said he could easily make a year two leap as so many other players do. And at the moment the only way this offense could become successful, is for Romeo Doubs to break out in 2023.
Number 2: DT Devonte Wyatt
While many fans are questioning, and rightfully so, the status of the team’s offense the defense is also filled with question marks. This includes the defensive line where veterans Jarran Reed and Dean Lowrey both left in free agency. With many snaps opening up alongside Kenny Clark, 2022 1st round pick Devonte Wyatt is going to need to step up in a big way in his sophomore season. The rest of the Packers defensive line is barren and as such there is no way Wyatt wont get meaningful snaps. Rather he needs to just take a leap forward after recording 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a reserve rookie. In addition to the weak defensive line, standout edge rusher Rashan Gary may miss some time. This will create an even larger hole in the pass rush. Wyatt needs to step up in both a run defense and pass rush role if this defense is to see any success in 2023.
Number 1: QB Jordan Love
Nobody should be surprised by Jordan Love’s inclusion on this list. The front office jobs, the coaching staff’s jobs and the fate of the future of the franchise rest on Jordan Love’s shoulders. Love showed serious flashes in the Philly game last season, playing against one of the league’s best defenses. But now the team needs him to show that wasn’t a flash in the pan and that Love really is ready to take the reins as the Packers third straight franchise QB. Regardless of the rest of the players on this list, Love breaking out or not will steer the ship that is the 2023 Packers team. If he doesn’t but the other players on this list do it won’t matter as the team will end up careening towards a dark hole with no end in sight.
Conclusion
The 2023 Packers team desperately needs several players to break out if it is going to do anything this season. This starts and truly ends with QB Jordan Love. Following the 2023 draft this list may change slightly depending on what positions the team targets, but Jordan Love will remain as everything rests on his breakout now.
