Predicting Where The Packers’ Free Agents Will End Up

The 2023 Green Bay Packers have many things they need to do before they are ready for the NFL season. One of which is to re-sign all of their unrestricted free agents. According to the website overthecap the Packers have 14 unrestricted free agents. Some of whom will demand decent contracts on the open market. This piece will list all of these free agents and where they will likely end up. (Of note, the NFC North will definitely be scavenging former Packers players for their own teams.)

Offense
  • TE Marcedes Lewis – Retirement
  • WR Allen Lazard – Chicago Bears
  • TE Robert Tonyan – Detroit Lions
  • WR Randall Cobb – Dallas Cowboys

Breaking down the offensive players set to hit free agency the team has four. Marcedes Lewis has made it clear he wants to continue to play but it is unsure if he will have any market at all in the NFL. As for receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, both will be going to separate teams where both have ties to. Lazard will be joining former Packers offensive coaching staff in Chicago for a Wide Receiver needy team. Randall Cobb will be reuniting with his former coach Mike McCarthy in Dallas, serving a second stint for the team as well. As for Tight End Robert Tonyan he will be ending up with the team that originally signed him as an UDFA in 2017. The Lions need a starting Tight End and Tonyan can provide valuable veteran experience to supplement an already good offense.

Defense
  • DT Dean Lowry – Cleveland Browns
  • DT Jarran Reed – Green Bay Packers
  • Edge Justin Hollins – Atlanta Falcons
  • LB Eric Wilson – Houston Texans
  • CB Corey Ballentine – New York Giants
  • CN Keisean Nixon – Green Bay Packers
  • S Dallin Leavitt – Houston Texans
  • S Rudy Ford – Green Bay Packers
  • S Adrian Amos – Green Bay Packers

The Packers have many free agents on the defensive side of the ball, several of whom are simple special teams players. As seen on this list several free against will end up back in the green and gold. As for key players who won’t. Defensive Tackle Dean Lowry will end up in Cleveland where they will continue their band aid approach to the interior defensive line. Edge Justin Hollins will end up in the rotation down in Atlanta. As for the Packers retaining, Nixon and Amos must be at the top of the teams priority list and as such should both end up back.

The final free agent from the team is kicker Mason Crosby who is expected to retire this offseason. Rounding out this list the Packers will be working hard to retain certain players while letting others walk. The next few weeks will be key for the Packers and look for news to start to come out post combine when the NFL landscape starts to shape up for free agency.
