Packers Announce Joint Practice with Patriots

Joint preseason practices are prevalent in the modern NFL. In order to avoid starters playing in preseason games and risking injury, teams have been doing collaborative practices to influence a more productive practice with an extra competitive element.

In the past two off-seasons, the Packers have teamed up with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. Plenty of insightful anecdotes have left those camps, like the two defenses putting on impressive displays between the Saints and Packers last season or the rookie Zach Wilson praising Aaron Rodgers two seasons ago. There’s always something noteworthy to take away from the joint practices.

During the upcoming 2023 preseason, the Packers have one of the most esteemed franchises and coaching staffs in the NFL world: the New England Patriots.

Jordan Love

All eyes are on Jordan Love to put on starting NFL-caliber play at the premium position of Quarterback. You couldn’t ask for a better defense to practice against than the Patriots’. The Pats’ defense was bottom 10 in points allowed and top three in turnovers forced per game. The New England defense is a smart and stingy one that does not allow a lot of room for error, giving Jordan Love a proper test before he gets into week 1.

Bill Belichick

There’s not much needed to be said about Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. The 8-time Super Bowl champion and 3-time coach of the year coach is arguably the greatest mind in all of football history. He was a pivotal piece in the rise of Tom Brady and mastermind of one of the greatest dynasties in all of sports history.

Putting in work with Bill Belichick will not just improve the Packers players, but even more so the coaching staff. The habit-building and detailed oriented nature of Belichick and the staff he surrounds himself with are the exact minds you want to involve a team with.

Good Signs

The drive to practice with such an esteemed team and staff shows a lot of drive from the Green Bay organization to be great. These teams will not go easy on each other in practice, and one should expect an abundance of film and quotes leaving the camp leaving with high regard for both of the historic franchises.
