Bears vs. Packers: Week 18 Postgame Reaction

Chicago Bears lose to the Green Bay Packers 9-17

A massive disappointment, the Chicago Bears failed to beat their NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers. With the Packers’ playoff hopes still alive, this was the chance for the Bears to get revenge and eliminate them. However, the Bears looked awful offensively, failing to score a touchdown all game.

No one on the Bears offense had a notable game, as both the run game and air attack were both shut down. The offense combined for only 148 passing/receiving yards and a mere 75 rushing yards. Factoring in five sacks that quarterback Justin Fields took (-31 yards), the offense had a net total of 192 total yards. An abysmal showing, there is much to fix for the Bears for next year offensively, and one of the biggest questions will be whether to draft a quarterback (potentially Caleb Williams) or not.

The defense again did their best to keep the team in the game, but when the offense can’t score a touchdown, there’s only so much you can do. Defensive end DeMarcus Walker got to the quarterback for the Bears’ only sack of the game, while rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson continued his stellar play, locking down receivers while also flying around the field to make great tackles. One tackle ended up causing the Packers to fumble, which safety Jaquan Brisker then made a great play to dive on the ball while staying in bounds.

The defense really has stepped up in the second half of the season, helped immensely by the acquisition of defensive end Montez Sweat. However, the main focus now remains to extend star cornerback Jaylon Johnson, one of the two Bears Pro Bowlers (the other being Sweat). Johnson has played like a top cornerback and deserves to be paid like one now. Meanwhile the development of fellow young cornerbacks Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson have impressed and will hope to build on their careers next season.

See you at the Draft, Bears fans.
