Chicago Bears lose to the Detroit Lions 26-31
A brutal collapse at the end, the Chicago Bears drop another game to the NFC North rivals, the Detroit Lions. This week featured the return of quarterback Justin Fields from injury, and he stepped up to the task to perform efficiently. Despite throwing and running fairly effectively, the Bears blew a lead in the fourth quarter to fall to the Lions.
The offensive side of the ball had its moments for sure as Fields was able to maneuver an efficient offense down the field multiple times. However, the Bears kicked field goals on four of those drives, showcasing the Bears’ poor touchdown scoring ability. Despite this, Fields finished with a solid statline of 16/23 for 169 passing yards and a touchdown, adding 104 rushing yards on 18 carries as well. A classic Justin Fields dual-threat game, his touchdown came by a beautiful throw to DJ Moore for a deep 39-yard score.
The defensive side of the ball had its moments too, despite falling apart late. First, rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson stood out with an early interception and forced a fumble on a kickoff. Along with him were linebackers T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds, who each also got an interception. Fellow linebacker Jack Sanborn and defensive end Montez Sweat both ended with a sack as the Bears totaled eight hits on the quarterback.
Despite creating a lot of quarterback pressure and creating multiple turnovers, the Bears defense gave up crucial scores at the end of the game to allow the Lions to win. The Bears offense also stalled towards the end, punting the ball once and also a fumble by Fields that led to a safety. An overall close game, it was disappointing to see the team play fairly well yet still lose.
