Chicago Bears defeat the Arizona Cardinals 27-16
A pretty dominant win, the Chicago Bears came out to play this week, beating the Arizona Cardinals to improve to 6-9 on the season. The defense has really stepped up huge in the past couple of weeks, looking like a completely new team. The midseason acquisition of defensive end Montez Sweat has brought life into the defense, creating havoc for opposing offenses.
The run game carried the offense today as running back Khalil Herbert broke off 112 rushing yards and a touchdown while quarterback Justin Fields ran for 97 rushing yards and added a touchdown on the ground as well. Fields’ lone passing touchdown came on a historic catch from tight end Marcedes Lewis, his 40th touchdown reception. Meanwhile tight end Cole Kmet had the only successful receiving day, finishing with 107 receiving yards on 4 catches.
However, the defense was the star of the show, flying all over the field to shut down the Cardinals offense. Cornerback Kyler Gordon has really broken out in his second year, making great tackles and pass deflections alongside fellow star cornerback Jaylon Johnson. Safety Jaquan Brisker and rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson also remain key pieces of this stout defense. The aforementioned Montez Sweat continues to haunt offensive linemen, creating pressure with linebackers T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds. Holding the Cardinals to under 100 yards rushing, the Bears defense has a bright future ahead of them.
