Dalvin Tomlinson was signed two years ago from the Giants, since then he has been a good run stuffer in the middle of the defense. The Vikings and Tomlinson agreed to move his contract void to march 15th, meaning there is likely an extension in the works, for the 28-year-old defensive tackle. The Vikings should sign Tomlinson and here is why:
Tomlinson is a difference-maker in the run game. He graded out with a 77.1 pff grade, which is above average. Tomlinson consistently clogged the middle and provided pressure in a much-needed area. In the four games he missed this last year against the Commanders, Bills, Cowboys, and Patriots they averaged 127.7 yards per game. Tomlinson is always one of the biggest players on the field, even if he is not making a tackle, he is affecting the game.
Tomlinson is only 28 years old, many players who the Vikings may cut or let go are well over that age. He fits into the younger timeline of the other players. He showed no signs of slowing down and has no injury concerns. Defensive tackle is a prime position and having a reliable player there is very important.
Tomlinson would not demand a huge contract. Currently overthecap.com has him projected to make anywhere from 5 million to 8 million dollars. The Vikings can afford that and should sign him to an extension without a second thought.
The Vikings need consistent players and that is exactly what he is going to give you. With many things set to change this upcoming season Dalvin Tomlinson should not be one of them. The Vikings now have given themselves extra time to come up with the correct amount of money, this deal has become a matter of when not if.
