Why Trading Away Aaron Rodgers isn’t as Big a Deal as you may Believe

With Aaron Rodgers’ announcement that he wants to play for the Jets next season, many Packers fans are anxious about next season however this situation isn’t even close to being as bad as some would make it out to be.

It goes without saying that Rodgers is one of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play and one of the greatest players in Packers history, which he rightly pointed out on the Pat Mcafee Show last Wednesday, however his performances last season weren’t good enough.

In 2023 the Packers went 8-9 finishing third in the NFC North after winning back to back division titles the two previous years and the drop off in the offense takes a huge part of that as the Packers’ defense kept them in a lot of games last year.

The Packers’ offense struggled from the get go on 2022 scoring just seven points on the opening week at Minnesota and then later on in the season we saw the saw the same themes again with just 10 points against the Jets at home and a measly nine points in Detroit where Rodgers threw three interceptions.

After the loss against the Titans on Thursday night where Rodgers flat out missed a wide open Sammy Watkins first down which would’ve changed the outcome of that game and the early interceptions against the Eagles in that loss it was clear something had to change.

The change that was made in the offensive game plan was to take the ball out of Rodgers’ hands as throwing the ball was getting the team absolutely nowhere so the focus then shifted to the run game which single handedly carried the Packers in their late season win streak which miraculously nearly got the Packers into the post season.

Ultimately the time is right to move on from Rodgers as it’s clear for all to see that the years are catching up to him and you really could see it in his play in 2022 so capitalizing on the Jets’ desperation to win a superbowl only makes sense.

The supposed value the Jets are willing to give up can be used to revitalize the Packers offensive with new talent to give Jordan Love the best chance of getting the Packers back to where they belong.
