Vikings Release Two-Time Pro Bowl Receiver Adam Thielen

The Vikings have released veteran wide receiver and hometown hero Adam Thielen.

Thielen is designated as an outright release, meaning the team will save $6.4 million in cap while taking on $13.5 million in dead cap space.

An undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State (Mankato) in 2013, Thielen spent his first three years primarily as a special teamer while trying to find a permanent spot in the receiver room. Once he got his chance to be a starter, he became a fixture at the position and never looked back.

Thielen is now going to leave the Vikings with 534 receptions for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns, becoming the franchise’s third all-time leading receiver, only behind Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Randy Moss. Along the way, Thielen earned two Pro Bowl nods and one Second-Team All-Pro selection.

Thank you for your contributions to the Minnesota Vikings, Adam Thielen. Your leadership embodied what it meant to become a hometown hero, and you became one of the greatest receivers in franchise history during your time here. Good luck in your future endeavors.
