Vikings Aquire Nick Mullens

Breaking News out of the Twin Cities: the Minnesota Vikings are sending a conditional 2024 seventh-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for quarterback Nick Mullens.

This is a major upgrade at QB for the Vikings, and they paid a tiny price for it. Mullens is a substantial upgrade at the QB2 spot, much better than Sean Mannion or Kellen Mond. Kevin O’Connell and Co. probably know that Mond doesn’t appear to be ready in the NFL, and we all know what Mannion is at this point.

Mullens has previously worked with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, and O’Connell’s offensive scheme is very similar to Shanahan’s. Go look at some of his production throughout 2018 and 2020 when he got significant starting time, he had some pretty good games. If Mullens has to start a game in the event of a Kirk Cousins injury or a game where he has to sit out due to COVID, the Vikings will be in good hands.

GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah did a great job here, getting a significant upgrade at QB2 for a very small cost. Welcome to the Vikings, Nick Mullens.
