Trade Options Involving the Number One Overall Pick

There is no doubt Bears GM Ryan Poles’ phone has been ringing non-stop ever since the Bears clinched the number one overall pick in the 2023 draft. Thanks to the Houston Texans for giving the Bears the first selection in the draft because now the Bears can use that pick to get whatever they want. There hasn’t been a trade for the first overall pick since the Los Angeles Rams did in 2016, who traded up to select QB Jared Goff. Since the Bears have their presumed franchise QB, they’ll likely look towards trading back in the draft to obtain more picks or maybe some new superstars. Here are a few options the Bears should think about pursuing.

Trade Option #1
Bears receive: Pick 4, Pick 35, Pick 79, 2024 IND 1st, 2024 IND 2nd
Colts receive: Pick 1

The Indianapolis Colts find themselves, once again, needing a new QB. The Colts GM, Chris Ballard, said he would do whatever it takes to get the number one overall pick, meaning the Bears have all the leverage if they want to make a deal before the draft.

Trade Option #2
Bears receive: Pick 2, Pick 12, Pick 33, 2024 CLE 1st, 2024 HOU 1st
Texans receive: Pick 1

The Houston Texans are likely drafting a QB this year, as Daivs Mills has proven that he isn’t the guy. The Texans can still get a QB at two if they want, but if they wish to have their guaranteed franchise guy, they may feel obligated to trade up one spot to secure their next franchise QB.

Trade Option #3
Bears receive: Pick 2, Pick 12, Pick 33, 2024 CLE 1st, 2024 HOU 1st
Texans receive: Pick 1
AND
Bears receive: Pick 4, Pick 35, Pick 79, 2024 IND 1st
Colts receive: Pick 2

This scenario is the scenario that Ryan Poles should be praying for. The Bears receive a boatload of picks, and Houston and Indianapolis both get their quarterbacks. This would be the best possible outcome for the Bears on draft night, as they would have two picks within the top 20. Ryan Poles should do everything he can to make this fantasy a reality.
