The Lions are Moving Up the Draft Order Thanks to the Rams

The Lions are still reaping the benefits of trading Matthew Stafford. The Rams traded for Matthew Stafford for which the Lions received two first round picks in 2022 and 2023, a third round pick in 2021, and Jared Goff. The Rams 2021 third round pick turned into Ifeatu Melifonwu. In addition, the Rams first round pick in 2022, after another trade with the Minnesota Vikings, eventually yielded Jameson Williams. He was the highest sought out wide out before his injury at the end of his college career. He is projected to play his first game soon, and display his crazy ability to stretch opposing teams defenses, because of his skill to get over the top of secondaries for big plays.

The last asset the Lions got from the Matthew Stafford Trade that has not been seen into fruition yet, is the Rams 2023 first round pick. At the start of the season, the Rams were seen as superbowl contenders, if not at least playoff contenders, but now through a large majority of the season the Rams have sucked. The Rams three wins so far have come to teams who are .500 or worse, and that was when the Rams had a healthy offense. Finishing off the season, the Rams will be without star wideout Allen Robinson and potentially star wideout Cooper Kupp. Additionally, Matthew Stafford has been abysmal when healthy, and recently he has not been able to get on the field due to injuries. There are even rumors that he’ll not play in another game this season for the Rams. With all these injuries to key players, and the offensive line getting ravaged by injuries as well, this once stout offense led by offense guru Sean McVay is struggling to stay afloat.

The Rams are currently 3-8, which is good enough to be the third worst team in the NFL. This record is thanks to a five game losing streak. With the aforementioned offense, this team will have a small chance to win another game this season.

This Rams misfortune becomes the Lions fortune thankfully. With the pick, the Lions could draft their quarterback of the future or Will Anderson Jr. to pair alongside Aidan Hutchinson and create a formidable young pass rush. This pick could be franchise changing, and it’s all thanks to the Matthew Stafford trade.
