The Biggest Priorities for the Green Bay Packers this Offseason

The offseason is officially here for Packer fans. It was a disappointing season and has many people questioning what is next for Green Bay. Once again, Aaron Rodgers doesn’t know if he wants to come back or not and his comments recently on “The Pat McAfee Show” has some fans questioning if he will be in a different uniform next season.

Rodgers was asked about returning next season and he had a lot of fans wondering about his future. “I think I can win MVP again in the right situation…Is that Green Bay or somewhere else, I’m not sure.” The Packers can’t really do much until they know if they are getting Rodgers back. One thing they can do is sign certain players to extensions. The Packers signed Elgton Jenkins to a four year contract extension during the season. That was a big signing that needed to happen. Another player that needs an extension is Rashan Gary. Gary was having a great year until he got hurt in week nine against the Detroit Lions. After Gary got hurt, the pass rush was nonexistent. The Packers will really need him moving forward whether Rodgers is back or not.

The Packers have some key free agents that they need to re-sign. The biggest one might be Keisean Nixon. Green Bay has struggled for a very long time to find a returner. They finally found one towards the end of the season in Nixon. They can’t let him get away. It would be nice for the Packers to get back Allen Lazard, but it really doesn’t seem like he wants to come back even if Rodgers decides to come back. He will most likely get a big contract from someone that has a lot of money to spend. If Rodgers decides to come back, they should really try to get Randall Cobb and Marcedes Lewis back. These two would most likely be willing to come back and play on veteran minimum contracts so that would be great to have their veteran leadership in the locker room once again.

Green Bay really needs pass rushers in this upcoming draft. The defense really struggled to generate any pressure once Gary was put on injured reserve for the rest of the season. There are some great pass rushers in this draft and we could even see Green Bay try to trade up from the number fifteen spot. Most fans will probably want a receiver in the first round and that wouldn’t be a bad route to go either, but we all know how the Packers operate. We should really expect to see them take a receiver towards the middle rounds as they have had a lot of success with that.

This team could look a lot different if Rodgers doesn’t come back. It will be a very young team, but they should still be a very competitive team. Jordan Love has shown ability and looks like he is ready to be a starting quarterback in this league. It should once again be a very interesting offseason for Green Bay fans.
