Lions In Talks To Extend Jared Goff

The draft came to an end this Sunday and Jared Goff haters were devastated when the Lions left the first round without a quarterback, and passed up on projected top-ten pick Will Levis not once, but twice. The Lions traded back from the sixth pick in the draft to the twelfth and drafted Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs, an absolutely stunning and disappointing pick. They then again disappointed Goff haters by drafting Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell with the eighteenth overall pick.

Lions draft Hendon Hooker
The Lions did go ahead and draft Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker in the third round, but unfortunately, he is already 25 years old. To put that in a broad sense of view Goff is only three years older and has already played in the league for seven complete seasons. So is Hooker really the reliant option for the future of the Detroit Lions? Most would say probably not.

Contract talks
Since the completion of the draft, it has been leaked that the Lions could be in possible contention to extend Jared Goff. Goff is expected to make just around 26 million this year, and 27 million next year which would mark the end of his contract.

Goff had a remarkable 2022 season where he threw 4,438 yards, and 29 touchdowns and fell one game short of bringing the Lions to their first playoff appearance since 2016. Goff will be turning 29 this season and seems to be in peak performance and a looming extension has never seemed more prominent. Before and after the draft, general manager Brad Holmes spoke with the utmost confidence that Goff will be the guy this year, and possibly for years to come.

After coming off of a victorious season where they had their first winning record since the 2017 season, and are now the favorites to win the North. The Lions have never seemed more content with their current placement in the league and seem to be in a win-now mentality, this is projected by not only head coach Dan Campbell but the entire organization as a whole.
