Kerby Joseph – Another Brad Holmes Success Story

The 2022 Detroit Lions currently have rookies starting at every level of the defense. While Aiden Hutchinson was drafted as an instant impact player, the rest of the class has quickly found themselves near the top of the depth chart.

Second rounder Josh Paschal has started since his return from injury. Hard Knocks hero and sixth-round pick Malcolm Rodriguez was a day one starter in a thin linebacker room. Now in Week 9, it seems Brad Holmes may have found another rookie gem.

Third round pick out of Illinois, Kerby Joseph, was thrown into the deep end after starting safety Tracy Walker tore his achilles. Luckily for Detroit’s secondary, he has not backed down from the challenge.

Prior to the Week 9 matchup with the Packers, Joseph had only allowed 3 receptions in 130 snaps. Each week he seemed to get better and better. Then, the young rookie had his best game yet against future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

Joseph showed just how special he can be with a team leading 3 passes defended… oh and he had 2 INTs as well. He gave the team every opportunity to win, and the Lions responded with their first win in 5 weeks.

While the team has clearly struggled this year, Detroit has flashed a promising group of rookies and second year players. Now, only time will tell what the team can do with this young, talented corps.
