After losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in week 12, it wasn’t looking good for the Green Bay Packers. They were 4-8 and many fans were wanting Jordan Love to replace Aaron Rodgers and let him be quarterback for the rest of the season. It appeared Green Bay would have a top ten pick in the 2023 draft and it looked like this was a wasted season. The Packers have come a long way since week 12. They have won four straight games and are now 8-8 after a dominating performance against the Minnesota Vikings.
Green Bay in week 17 played the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field and ran away with it early in this game. The Packers dominated in all three phases of the game and won 41 to 17. The Vikings scored some late touchdowns once Green Bay put in their bench, so this game was an even bigger blowout than what the final score shows. They exposed their division rival and are now one win away from making it to the playoffs.
The Packers will play the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football at Lambeau Field to decide who goes to the playoffs. The Lions will need the Seahawks to lose in order for them to make it so they could be eliminated from the playoffs before Sunday night. This will be a tough matchup for Green Bay even if the Lions are eliminated. Dan Campbell, the Lions head coach, will have Detroit playing hard no matter what they are playing for. The Packers lost to Detroit in week nine,15 to 9. Aaron Rodgers had one of his worst games of his career throwing three interceptions. The Packers offense couldn’t get anything going against one of the worst defenses this year. Green Bay’s offense is playing well of late though and have finally found their identity.
One thing the Packers need to do in this game is produce turnovers. In the past two games, they have forced eight turnovers combined. This has been a big reason they have won four straight. They are forcing turnovers and giving the offense a short field to work with. They need to do this again if they want to win.
The Detroit Lions are a very tough team. They started off 1-6 and are now 8-8. They are playing well at the right time and have given themselves a chance at the playoffs. The Packers will need to play just like they have during this four game win streak. With the playoffs on the line, at Lambeau Field with Aaron Rodgers, it should be a good one.
