Game Day Preview: Packers vs. Lions

After a 4-8 start to the 2022 season the Green Bay Packers now have their playoff destiny in their own hands in week 18 against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.

After last weeks 41-17 demolition of the Minnesota Vikings the Packers are now locked into a three horse race for the 7th seed in the NFC playoffs against the Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawks.

The goal the Packers is incredibly simple as if they win against the Lions on Sunday night football they are into the play offs on the basis that they would better the Seahawks conference record should they also beat the Rams in the 4 o’clock window.

The Lions however could be eliminated from play off contention before this game even kicks off should the Seahawks beat the Rams earlier on in the day.

Detroit come into the game with a massive point to prove after their 1-6 start they’ve gone on to win 7 of their last 9 with Jared Goff showing his 2018 form throwing 29 touchdowns to 7 interceptions this year.

However this time the Lions are facing a formidable Packers defence which has created 8 turnovers in the last 2 games and has also held the opposing team to under 21 points in the last 4 games.

The key to victory for Green Bay in this matchup is how they handle Detroits stellar running back pairing in De’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, who has a leading 15 rushing touchdowns.

If the Packers can shut those two down those two in the shame fashion in which they shut down Justin Jefferson the week prior it’ll go a huge way to securing the last remaining playoff spot in the NFC.

All clinching scenarios for the 7th seed in the NFC:
  • Packers qualify with win vs the Lions
  • Lions qualify with Seahawks loss + win over the Packers
  • Seahawks qualify with win over the Rams + Detroit win against the Packers
