The Chicago Bears have officially launched the 2022 NFL Season with a win against the highly favored San Francisco 49ers. I saw a lot of potential greatness in this Week One game from a lot of players, one of whom being rookie Defensive End Dominique Robinson.
The Miami of Ohio product shined against San Francisco, logging 7 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 3 QB pressures, and 2 tackles for loss. He was the highest graded 2022 draft pick on defense in Week 1 in the entire NFL with a 89.9% grade on PFF. Keep in mind that he was drafted in the 5th round, behind players like Aiden Hutchinson.
In the second quarter, Robinson manhandled 49ers quarterback, Trey Lance, throwing him to the ground with a single hand, recording his first ever NFL sack. While Robinson found success in Week One, it’s also worth noting that the 49ers interior offensive line, who Robinson compete against, had a combined three career starts in the NFL. In no way am I attempting to discredit Robinson, however it is important to hold note.
This is the type of pick that I think that we can expect from Ryan Poles in the future. This is a great scouting job by Poles and the scouting department to find a player with a high upside that pays off because of good coaching and discipline. The way this GM and Coach work together is exactly what Bears fans want and need. I’m glad that we seem to have found something to look forward to in a seemingly dismal year.
