Overall, this should’ve been a win. Frankly, had D’Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown, or Dj Chark played, the score might’ve been in the 60s. Detroit’s defense still would have gotten embarrassed.
Winners and Losers of Week 4:
Stock Up: Lions offense + Jack Fox Stock Down: Lions defense + Dominik EberleIt’s as simple as that. There were absolutely no players on Detroit’s offense today who deserve to be placed in the Stock Down category. There were also absolutely no players on Detroit’s defense today who deserve to be placed in the Stock Up category.
There were some offensive mistakes, but there was absolutely nothing that I believe warrants a stock down. The only players on defense who didn’t play poorly enough to receive a stock down ranking are Malcolm RodrĂguez, DeShon Elliott, and Charles Harris.
Some specific players who stood out:
Stock Up: Jared Goff:Yes, Goff had a few mistakes, but he led an offense that lost its best RB, best 2 WRs, and lost both its starting guards to 45 points. He looked great today, and all Lions fans are hopeful that he can keep this up.
Stock Up: Jamaal Williams:
Barely in the Stock Up category is Jamaal Williams. He played great with the football in his hands, however, he couldn’t catch to save his life. As a running back who isn’t known for his pass catching abilities, he gets an excuse.
Stock Up: Josh Reynolds:
Coming into Week 4 with a leg injury, Josh Reynolds absolutely killed it. He played so well, making multiple excellent catches. I can’t imagine how good he would’ve done if he was targeted from the start.
Stock Up: Tj Hockenson:
Lions pro-bowl TE Tj Hockenson had the best game of his career this afternoon. He accumulated 12 targets for 8 receptions, 179 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns, and a two point conversion reception. He also hauled in an 80+ yard reception late.
Stock Down: Amani Oruwariye:
Once again having a game to forget, Amani Oruwariye was beaten numerous times by Tyler Lockett and Dk Metcalf. He limited the penalties, and had a great PBU late, but that does not make up for his other failures today.
Stock Down: Alex Anzalone:
Alex Anzalone was all over the field today. Usually, that’s a good thing… but not when you’re missing nearly every tackle possible, it most certainly is not.
Stock Down: Kerby Joseph:
In his first career start, S Kerby Joseph played poorly. He gave up multiple touchdowns; two in the first half. It’s safe to say that Joseph will not stay as Tracy Walker’s replacement for long.
Stock Down: Dominik Eberle:
Nobody’s surprised that practice squad Kicker, Dominik Eberle is here. He made two extra points, as well as a 49 yard field goal, but the two missed extra points early seriously hurt.
