BEARS WIN! A closely contested game in all four quarters, the Chicago Bears showed fight throughout. Firstly, it would be criminal not to mention RB Khalil Herbert. Stepping up huge for injured David Montgomery, Herbert took 20 carries for 157 yards to go along with two touchdowns, an absurd efficiency. QB Justin Fields couldn’t get much going in the game, missing a few throws and failing to escape pressure.
On the defensive end of the ball, LB Roquan Smith was the big hero of the game, piling up 16 total tackles with two tackles for loss, but most importantly setting up the win with an extremely clutch interception with under two minutes to go. S Eddie Jackson put on another vintage performance: deflecting a pass, racking up 8 tackles, and getting an interception himself.
Overall reaction: Bears beat Texans 23-20
Unfortunately while Fields didn’t produce much with his arm, he was able to make a few plays with his legs to set up a few field goals. He also made a few good throws, but ultimately had a day to forget. The run game with Herbert was unstoppable, gashing Houston’s defense consistently. The injury to David Montgomery is certainly a big loss, along with WR Byron Pringle also leaving the game early.
While the offense (aside from Khalil Herbert) looked slow at times, the defense made some big plays at the right time. Although giving up a lot of rushing yards, the Bears pass defense came up clutch on multiple occasions, the most important one coming with Smith’s massive pick. One final mention, DT Justin Jones has continued his presence up front, hitting the opposing QB twice.
Kicker Cairo Santos came up huge as well, another hero of the big win. Santos was 2/2 with his extra point kicks, while hitting 3/3 field goals, including the game winning field goal as time expired. A very reliable kicker so far, Santos continues his strong campaign.
Yo! Great work Jason. Glad to see you doing well, buddy. Keep up the good work.
