Chicago Bears 2023 Undrafted Free Agent Tracker

The Chicago Bears are still assembling their 90-man roster even after the 2023 NFL draft is over. The Bears will be attempting to sign some undrafted free agents who were not selected in the draft.

Ryan Poles, the general manager of the Bears, plans to recruit additional athletes for training camp. In the past, the Bears have discovered several outstanding undrafted free agents, including linebacker Jack Sanborn, cornerback Bryce Callahan, and defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris.

Here is the list that I have made of Bears UDFA that have been signed. Keep in mind that nothing in undrafted free agency is final until the team makes it public.

LB Micah Baskerville (LSU)

Baskerville started seven of eight games in 2020 after playing in 12 games as a reserve for the 2019 national champions LSU (15 tackles, four for loss, and one sack). Due to academic concerns, he was unable to participate in the spring workouts in 2021. However, he made up for it by starting 12 games in the spring and setting a career high with 83 tackles, nine for loss, two sacks, one interception, and three pass breakups.

RB/FB Robert Burns (UConn)

Redshirted as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. In 2021 at UConn he had 12 carries for 45 yards, one reception for four yards, and returned 3 kicks for 58 yards. Off the field he is the co-founder of Second Spoon, which is a non-profit organization that provides excess food from college dining halls to those in need.

K Andre Szmyt (Syracuse)

Andre Szmyt is a dependable starter. A record-breaking kicker who made a name for himself as a redshirt freshman, winning the Lou Groza Award in 2018 and was named to the All-America team. Szmyt is Syracuse’s all-time leading scorer (354 points), has been named to the All-ACC and All-ECAC teams twice, and has been nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy three times.

QB Tyson Bagent (Shepherd)

Tyson Bagent is a decorated talent from a tiny school with a shooter’s mentality. He is a suitable size for the position and is not a violent athlete. He will confuse defenses by employing all three levels. He occasionally makes poor choices and is still very much a work in progress when under duress. Because of his fiery personality and excellent but not exceptional arm, he might have problems in the NFL.

DB Macon Clark (Tulane)

Started each of the Tulane’s 12 games, was the team’s top tackler with a season total of 74 tackles, named to the Third Team of the Phil Steele All-American Athletic Conference ranked third in the AAC with 6.1 tackles per game on average and four interceptions for a total gain of 78 yards this season.

OG Gabe Houy (Pittsburgh)

Injuries limited him to eight games and five starts in 2022. He made five starts at right tackle, where he usually plays and earned his first start of the season on October 22 versus Louisville. He was a selection to play in the College Gridiron Classic led to additional starting roles against North Carolina, Syracuse, Duke, and Miami.

DE Jalen Harris (Arizona)

In 2022, Harris played defensive end and started all 12 games, tying a career best. He made 51 tackles, a career-high, including 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, a career high, tied, for a loss of 23 yards. Against San Diego State on September 3rd, he recorded a season-high eight tackles and one sack for a loss of six yards. Tallied six tackles, culminating in the 38-35 victory over Arizona State that gave his team its first Territorial Cup in five years. Recorded 2.0 tackles for a loss, a season-high, including a sack and a forced fumble. 171 total tackles, 26 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, 11 pass deflections, and three forced fumbles were the player’s career highs.

DB Justin Broiles (Oklahoma)

One of the three 2022 recipients of the prestigious Don Key Award for the program, which is given for success on and off the field. Received honorable mention recognition for All-Big 12 from league coaches. A member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Participated in all 13 games, starting all 12 of them. 71 tackles, ranking fourth on the team, 3.0 tackles for loss, one interception, and two pass breakups. Collected six stops (five solo) and a PBU against Florida State in the Cheez-It Bowl on December 29. He also made six stops against Texas Tech on November 26. made one TFL and five tackles against Oklahoma State (11/19), recorded seven tackles in the 11/12 game against West Virginia.

OT Lorenz Metz (Cincinnati)

In 2022 he started the season’s final five games at right guard, and in the regular-season finale against Tulane, he helped UC rumble for a season-high 235 rushing yards. After being named to the All-AAC First squad for the 2021 CFP UC squad he battled injuries in the offseason. Massive 6-9 lineman who began his career at tackle and both guard positions. Before the 2022 season, named to the Rotary Lombardi Watch List. Finished with 27 offensive line starts. Against Temple in 2019, he also stopped a PAT.

WR Thyrick Pitts Jr. (Delaware)

An ADA Scholarly All-Star who was selected to the All-CAA Third Group, Pitts Jr. started all 13 games in 2022 and finished the season with 57 receptions for 631 yards and a team-high 10 touchdowns. Two of his most notable performances came against Villanova, where he had seven catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns, and against Delaware State, where he caught seven passes for 94 yards and one touchdown.
