Bears vs. Giants Postgame Reaction
- October 2, 2022
- 1 minute read
A tough one to swallow today, the Chicago Bears fell short today. A fairly messy game all around, one of the popular headlines was that both defenses would struggle to contain the run. This boded true for the Bears, as they gave up 260+ rushing yards, including two big rushing touchdowns by the Giants QB Daniel Jones.
Bears QB Justin Fields also produced well on the ground, but once again, struggled passing the ball. While Fields certainly threw for more yards and attempted more passes than usual, he only completed 11 total passes in the game. The offensive efficiency was a struggle, as RB Khalil Herbert was mostly stifled throughout the game, finishing with 77 yards on 19 attempts.
Another week, another Roquan Smith appreciation piece. The star linebacker showed out again, leading the team with 10 tackles. S Eddie Jackson got yet another big interception, catching up to a long deep pass to get the ball back.
Overall reaction: Bears lose to Giants 20-17
The Bears offense has yet to put up an impressive performance. Fields had more opportunities to throw the ball, and completed some nice passes to WR Darnell Mooney, but there weren’t enough completed passes to put together touchdown drives.
While the Bears defense struggled to stop Giants RB Saquon Barkley, they did a good job of stopping the passing game. Only letting up 71 passing yards, the Bears contained the air attack. However, they allowed the opposing quarterback Jones to scramble for long rushing touchdowns, which needs to be prevented in the future.
Newly acquired kicker Michael Badgley hit 4/4 field goals today, stepping up huge for Cairo Santos (out for personal reasons).
