Yesterday, August 30, NFL teams were required to cut their roster down from 80 players down to 53. This means that many NFL caliber players will hit the waiver wire for other teams to sign. In the early morning of August 31, news broke that the Bears would be claiming six players off of the waiver wire.
The Biggest Pick Up: Alex Leatherwood
Alex Leatherwood was a former first round pick for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, and played college football under Nick Saban at the university of Alabama. Leatherwood will be joining a bad Bears offense in desperate need of help on the offensive line. The former first round pick, who was considered a consensus reach by the NFL community, played poorly in his rookie season with the Raiders, warranting his release from the Raiders. The Bears will inherit Leatherwood’s contract, which has 3 years left, and $5.9 million that is fully guaranteed.
The Other Pick Ups:
DB – Josh Blackwell from the Eagles
DE – Jonathan Kingsley from the Bills
NT – Armon Watts from the Vikings
LB – Stephen Weatherford from the Colts
TE – Trevon Wesco from the Jets
If “went crazy” means busts and zero decent players then sure, he went absolutely nuts!
